"Everything that we do, we do because they are the right decisions that do not take into account personal sentiment." (by Real Mardrid president, Florentino Perze Goal.com, Valdano departure)
This is a very general statement and frequently used by Chairman, or CEO to explain someone departure.
What is the Background? Madrid president Perze explained the departure of their general manager – Jorge Valdano. Reporters painted that it is the political battle between Jose Mourinho and Valdano, and oberviously, the departing GM is the loser.
It is interesting to learn their political correct language, for example;
"It has been a long time since I have spoken personally to Mourinho. We greet each other politely, but he sought to deal with people other than me. My responsibilities with the first team were reduced. I did not feel comfortable in that situation." By Valdano.
The main reason for his leaving is because his responsibilities were reduced, he didn’t say any bad words to his rival.
Let’s see what Mourinho said,
"I want to stress how painful the departure of Jorge Valdano is to me. We have travelled a long distance together," he told a press conference.
I am pretty sure he didn’t say it out of his heart, but I appreciate his wording, it seems they were good colleague before. I guess since he won the battle, it is not necessary to put salt on the wound.
According to what Valdano said, we can feel there is personal conflict between them, not totally without the element of personal sentiment.
Valdano, though, suggested otherwise and said: "If this was a battle, this decision clearly states who is the winner of the fight. I haven’t spoken to him [Mourinho] personally for a long time, but I haven't needed to.
